LHS Theatre Information
Boosters – LHS Theatre Boosters is the organization that exists to support the LHS Theatre Department. The Booster organization is a 501c3 Non-profit organization with the purpose of supporting the program. They do this by fundraising, volunteering, promoting, and serving the directors and students in any way they can.
Volunteering – There are so many ways to get involved with the theatre department/boosters and it is very much encouraged for all parents to help out. Volunteers are needed to help build/paint sets for the big shows (fall show & Musical), decorate for shows & banquet, provide food, help with fund raising & advertising, and much much more. If you are interested in being involved in a bigger capacity, there are opportunities to be committee leaders and serve on the Booster Board.
Convention – There is a State Thespian Convention held in the Dallas area each year. This is a 3 day event where students travel by bus to the convention, stay in a hotel, attend workshops, compete in various acting, singing, and tech events and have an amazing time. This is an optional event and is open to all students who have earned enough points to be an active member of the LHS Thespian troupe. Cost is generally $300-$400 and must be paid prior to convention.
Fall Show – The Advanced Production class puts on a fall show each year. Auditions will be right at the beginning of the school year and the show will be towards the end of October. This production is normally performed in the Little Theatre as a “Dessert Theatre”. At intermission, dessert is served. There is a participation Fee for this show.
Freshman Traveling Show – The Freshman Advanced class puts on a Christmas show each year that they perform for the elementary schools in the area.
Musical – We do a full length musical every year. This is the one show of the year that has completely open auditions. Anyone in LHS is able to audition to be in the show. Expect to put a lot of hours and hard work into this show and to have a really fun time. There is a Participation fee for this show.
“One Act”/UIL – Just like sports, band, and other academic areas, there is a University Inter Scholastic League contest for Theatre. We compete by putting on a One Act Play and have the opportunity to advance from competing at the district level all the way to State. This is mostly made up of students in the Advanced Productions class (Sophomore – Senior), but often a Freshman is included as a shadow.
